Speaking of Slot Machines

There are terms in the world of medicine that a layman cannot comprehend. A case in point is periorbital hematoma. Those in the medical field have no trouble understanding the word. Ordinary people, on the other hand, may have a hard time figuring out that it simply means black eye. That’s why there are layman’s terms.

The same goes in the game of slot machines. There are some words that have a different meaning if taken in the context of slot machines. If you are a novice player, don’t blow your cover. Arm yourself with the knowledge of the slot machine lingo and look and sound like a pro.

Here are some of the colorful terms that are unique to the game of slot machines.

Coin Hopper

This refers to the container wherein coins, which are instantly obtainable for payouts, are stored. A hopper is mechanical tool which rotates coins into a coin tray every time a player collects his credits by pushing the “Cash Out” button.

Drop Bucket

It can be found in the base of a slot machine. This container is where the coin diverter redirects excess coin once the predetermined coin capacity is reached. It is the same as the drop box. The difference is that drop buckets are present in low denomination slot machines while drop boxes are available in high denomination slot machines since drop boxes have hinged lids which have a couple of locks while drop buckets are pretty much open.

Hand Pay

This term pertains to the payout made by slot attendants. This type of payout normally takes place when the amount to be released is above the maximum amount that is set by operators of slot machines.

Hopper Fill Slip

This document is created for the purpose of recording the coin replenishments in the coin hopper as soon as it is depleted due to the payouts to the players. This piece of paper shows the amount of the coin stored into the hoppers, the number of the slot machine, the location, the date, and the name and signature of the employee responsible in the replenishment.

Payline

This is the line, which can either be straight or zigzag, that crosses through a symbol on every reel where the winning combination is checked. Conventional reel machines have around none paylines. Video slot machines, on the other hand, have as high as a hundred paylines.

Rollup

Whenever a player hits the jackpot or at least won a hefty amount of money, all sorts of jolly sounds come from the slot machine. This process of calling attention to the winner or making the player more excited about his win is known as rollup.

Slant Top

It is sometimes referred to as low level slot machines. There are slot machines that have stools so that players can enjoy a whole night of gaming while seated.

Stand Up

As opposed to slot machines in slant top mode, the stand up slot machines do not have seats. The name says it; players have to stand up in front of the machine to take part in the game.
